Multiple Intelligences

There are many ways in which we are each different as learners. We each have a unique personality, a distinct set of motivations, differing emotional responses, and differing ways in which we best learn. I will be trying to address many of the ways in which we differ in creating the lessons and activities of our courses of study. One of the ways we differ is in the manner in which we are best able to learn. For example, some people learn best using songs and role playing, others through talking and discussion, others through reading, and still others in more differing ways. This understanding of the multiple different ways in which learn is described as Multiple Intelligences (MI).

One of the best results of the growing appreciation of MI is the creation of free online tests to help people determine where their learning strengths and weaknesses lie. Of these free tests, my favourite is one created by the Birmingham City Council in the United Kingdom (UK) and available as part of their Birmingham Grid for Learning (BGfL). This test is quick and easy to do. Moreover, once you have completed the test, you are given a unique code that you can then share and I can create a class profile. I will be posting the class profile and using it to help guide me in creating the activities and assignments for the course so that they can better meet the unique needs of our class. Though, remember that we all learn using all of these types of intelligence – we just have preferences. Moreover, I will be trying to help each of us to improve in the areas where we are weakest as well as allowing us to use the areas in which we are strongest.

Please click on the image below, go to the “Take a Test” page, complete the test, and record your unqiue code. Once you have done that and had a chance to exmine your results and what they mean for you on the BGfL website, come back here and use the form below to submit your code along with your course code and the period I am teaching your class. If you wish to have me see your individual MI test results, you may enter your name. However, you are more than welcome to keep your own test private.

If the image does not link to the MI page on the BGfL page, you can click here: http://www.bgfl.org/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/index.htm.

Submit your results for the class profile.
